Whack-ah-mole…. an update from Texas

April 27, 2018

….in Texas it is that time of year when they experience large temperature shifts and at the same time also expect to see a number of tornadoes. Now not being born and raised in Texas I find it a little disconcerting that during the weather report on the evening news they showed graphs of comparison between the number and intensity of tornadoes experienced during the month, it is not the fact that they are discussing this weather phenomena that unsettles me but the casual/matter of fact way they address it.

With it nearing almost two weeks since my last posting and with some of you thinking I may have hung up my keyboard I believe I should raise my head, (like in the carnival game ‘whack-a-mole’), above the game board of life and finger some keys to let you know what is happening with the old curmudgeon.

First let me say that never fear the world and its millions of bureaucrats are still doing many corrupt things totally devoid of any common sense that one can write about. Even right here in the good old US of A our own oil companies must need more cash in their pockets so there is once again an artificial oil shortage. I say artificial because you may remember back in the beginning of the year these same oil companies were gloating over the fact that the US was now on track to be the worlds number one oil producer, so I have to ask why all of the sudden did we jump $.20 or $.30 a gallon for gas?

And just when…. I have accepted the fact that I will remain here in Texas, sign another years lease on the apartment and go to DMV to register my truck in Texas I am once again ‘whacked on the head’. I was expecting the increase in cost at my insurance company State Farm because I now live in a highly congested area and the chance of an accident is definitely greater than back at the cabin, but DMV wants $200 to register my truck and the lady found it ‘humorous’ that in Alaska I did not have to pay to have my registration renewed every year. The icing on the cake was when I arrived back home there was a notice on my door of a rent increase…. now one can ask how after just signing my new lease could I weeks later get a notice of a rent increase and I say that’s what makes me feel like I am in a ‘Whack-a-mole’ game!

So though the world wobbles along as it has always done
my new improved and warmer Texas universe
continues to put its foot on my back
and just when
I need a smoke
I realize
what a bad time it was
to quit.
