No blog postings lately…. now that is S.A.D.

September 17, 2019

A posting about nothing at all

….it was a little after two am, the snow beneath my feet not only reflected the color from the aurora overhead it echoed with the otherworldly crunch of ice crystals breaking at 34 below zero. I was making the quick transit between my cabin and generator shed and though I failed to notice the intense fluid green light show overhead I was painfully aware my pants were freezing solid and my lungs were starting to burn as I reached the shed.

For me it was just another January in the wilderness for most others it was just one example of S.A.D. (seasonal affective disorder). It’s ironic most people who have heard of the disorder S.A.D. think it can only happen in the far North and is directly related to the lack of sunlight. It is true my ‘nights’ in the cabin ran for 20 hours during deep winter and even when it was ‘day time’ in January the light outside was more like a sunset, but here I am experiencing a form of Texas S.A.D not because of darkness but heat.

Being a former smoker of almost half a century breathing the hot moist air for the past three months is like trying to exercise in a sauna, so instead of dealing with the discomfort I just stay in solitary confinement in my apartment. When you add to that the various other maladies people of my age are subject to you get the perfect storm of SAD Texas style.

So what is one to do about it? Lately nothing but lingering in bed and playing games on the computer. I mean why bother even writing about things happening around the world, after all I am preaching to the choir and my writing will not change one thing.

I mean do you truly think
my words will have any effect on:

† our congressmen and woman telling the truth

† these same congressman actually acting to benefit the public

† President Trump actually not tweeting insanity’s

† Our children acting morally instead of immorally

† People from other countries obeying the rule of law

S.A.D.

Isn’t it?

It is sad, but each day you encourage someone else is a day less sad.

Sometimes we feel that we alone, aren’t enough, to bring about any changes in this world, because we want to see the immediate results of our actions, and sometimes, the results of our actions don’t start to show up, until much later…

Pete, your words change many worlds. I certainly appreciate them in mine. They’re closer to sanity than I’ve heard in a while. And you will enjoy Texas soon. Just listen to the hum of the A/C a little bit longer…patience, patience.
