Alaska flashback….these are a few of my favorite things

May 5, 2018

In 1965 Julie Andrews sang a song entitled ‘these are a few of my favorite things’ in the show Sound of Music now 53 years later I am using those words to garner hits on my blog so you can hopefully enjoy a smile of a few of my Alaskan favorite things.

Of course we start with the obvious for Alaska
for some reason I always like the winter better than summer

well maybe not quite as cold as that.

Then we have the fact that whenever I drove in winter

the roads had very little traffic on them

In Texas I have come to enjoy indoor plumbing

but miss those winter walks in Alaska

Then there are those times
when I walked to the outhouse

and I lost my way

Though cold in winter
we still found time to go outside and have some fun

the outhouse races… fun or just cabin fever

..but the number one thing I miss about Alaska in the winter

is how the angels paint the sky at night

I love this!!!! I’ve also loved winter a wee bit more than summer, although I love outdoor activities in summer as well!

The outhouse races look so fun!!

This is such a neat post! Thank you for sharing!

A-MEN to all those items, Pete! Some definite ‘worthy’ memories in that list…

What a wonderful pic of the aurora Pete! Especially teamed with the pink sunrise! Wow!! The vehicles in the ditch looks like Minnesota! Hope the person headfirst in the snow was pulled out without getting too cold! LOL!!

Although sometimes bittersweet, I’m grateful for memories…and accompanying photographs. I started life in Alaska and am now in Texas, with many stops in between.

Hello Pete, great blog you have. I had a good chuckle at the “very little traffic” photo. I left Alaska in April 2017, and certainly missed seeing the Northern Lights last winter. Hope you are enjoying your time in the lower 48 – I’ve only driven through the panhandle but have heard great things about Texas.
