There is always hope….

February 4, 2018

… is late morning as I enjoy the taste of my first cup of coffee and the fog clears in my mind when  I remember today is super bowl Sunday with my Eagles in the fight of their lives in just a few hours. After following the eagles for half a century one is allowed to revel in their post-season victories and even their playing in the super bowl, but also because I have followed them for 50 years I know the odds of them wearing that super bowl ring later tonight is pretty slim.

Now those of us who have lived with the Eagles for years we see tonight’s game akin to a vacant lot bare knuckles kinda game with a bunch of fancy medical students playing against some blue collar laborers. The medical students have size and finesse whereas the blue collar men have courage and heart. Most bookmakers give the Eagles little chance to win especially with a backup quarterback but still ‘we the people’ seem to be ignoring that and taking the odds and betting on an upset win.

It would be so good to see for once
my Eagles
standing tall holding the super bowl trophy high
no matter the outcome
they have given me a great season of entertainment
and for that I thank them.

Lots of Vikings fans here in Mn. are rooting for the Patriots because of the way some Vikings fans were treated so rudely at the playoff game having beer, etc. thrown on them. Guess their fans have done that for years; egging the opposing team’s bus too. We haven’t attended any of the festivities nor will we be watching the game because of the Pledge issue and weather & pricey event tickets outside the game. $1000 for parking spaces near the stadium for example. We’re not hoity toitys.

Just for you, Pete, I’ve noticed several billboards in Eagle green around the Cities saying “Fly, Eagles, Fly xoxo Philadelphia” no doubt a take-off of the Silver Convention song from the 70s “Fly, Robin, Fly”. I did think that was kind of cool.

Oh, just one more thing. The Vikings lost the Philadelphia game in the second half of the Saints game being behind 24-20 with just a few seconds left. Then came the catch.

Enjoy the win Pete! It really warmed my heart to see the coach and players give glory to God. The team showed a lot of poise and class.
