Memorial day…. the cost of freedom

May 26, 2017

Memorial day is much more than BBQ’s and a long weekend

Freedom to do and say what we want is taken for granted by most of us
but it comes at a very high cost….

Never forget those that have served, fought and died
allowing us to have this freedom.

Freedom isn’t free!

Lest we forget. Another day that challenges us to recall the cost of freedom. I have to sadly admit that I believe many have already forgotten the real cost. Too most it is just sentimental words. We replace lost with more ” stuff”. That big screen TV has replaced the reality of the hundreds of thousands that have laid their lives for political games/ gains.

Freedom is NEVER free, and we’d often taken it for granted, not realizing, how many people had, fallen before our time, to allow us, to live freely in this world, which is why, Memorial Day should be emphasized more that it is right now…

I appreciate how you have shown the difference between Memorial Day and Veterans Day. Too many lump everything together in one glorious red, white, and blue celebration after another. To remember is almost a forgotten art. It is something lots of people don’t really want to do.

We attended the program at our local American Legion today. Had to move it indoors at the last moment due to sudden rain showers, but nonetheless was another great, poignant event, with stories told of war experiences by those in charge of the program. When the names were read of Legion members who’d passed on in the past year it was indeed moving.
Too bad it was moved inside because we didn’t have the gun salute.
Thanks to all posters & visitors here who served. It is much appreciated.
