Hope and change is now loot and burn?

May 1, 2015

The following posting has been sent to WordPress via WinLink the ham radio email system. My Mac is having issues and will not interact with the internet. I apologize for how this posting may end up looking when published, because I have no way of accessing the net. Also please understand that I can not access any comments you may make or email sent to my Yahoo address. If the Mac is indeed dead it may be a while before I can return to posting photographs, interacting with your comments and having a better physical appearance for my writings. However it is after all the words and thoughts contained in these postings that matter not how they look. I hope you will continue to find my work interesting.

Hope and change is now loot and burn?

It indeed has been a strange few days lately mostly because I found myself for the first time ever agreeing with President Obama when spoke about the rioting in Baltimore when he said “There is no excuse for the riots and violence” and that “It is not a protest, it is not a statement, they’re stealing. It’s a handful of people taking advantage of the situation for their own purposes, and they need to be treated as criminals.”

Obama made these remarks at a Rose Garden press conference hours after Baltimore was gripped overnight by looting and riots, supposedly as a reaction to the death of a 25-year-old black man injured while in police custody. The Baltimore Sun newspaper has reported the following about the riots in Baltimore….

Violence and looting overtook much of West Baltimore on Monday, injuring more than a dozen police officers and leaving buildings and vehicles in flames. As night fell, looters took to Mondawmin Mall and a Save-A-Lot and Rite Aid in Bolton Hill, loading up cars with stolen goods. About 10 fire crews battled a three-alarm fire at a large senior center under construction at Chester and Gay streets, as police officers stood guard.

Fifteen police officers were injured in a clash with school-age children that began around 3 p.m., and two remain hospitalized. The confrontation near Mondawmin escalated quickly. Demonstrators pelted officers with rocks, bricks and bottles and assaulted a photojournalist. Demonstrators set a police vehicle ablaze at North and Pennsylvania avenues. Nearby, they looted a CVS drug store, which store officials said had already closed, before it caught fire. Rioters then cut the fire hose as firefighters battled the blaze.

However I do disagree with the President when he said, during that same press conference in the Rose Garden, ‘America needs to get serious about lifting up impoverished communities, to help alleviate the tension that simmers under the surface and breaks through during confrontations with law enforcement’.

You can not lift people up out of poverty
who do not want to work to stay out of poverty.
And you can not reason with someone
who thinks they are entitled
to what others have had to work hard for.

Yes Mr President educational opportunities are the answer,
if the students are willing to learn.

Yes Mr President we have some bad police officers
but when none are respected because of those few,
we will continue to have anarchy.

..and yes Mr President the country needs to do some soul searching

especially the parents of the young people that destroyed downtown Baltimore,
because until these parents teach their children
right from wrong
this country will continue to burn.

Your first statement “You cannot lift people up out of poverty…” is exactly right about these thugs. There, I used the new racist word.
These thugs want what we have but don’t want to do a damn thing to earn it, maybe because their parents didn’t or their friends’ parents don’t.
Why work if you can get it for free?
By the way, it may be my first time to agree with our President when he referred to these thugs as, well, thugs.
