A paper tiger in the White House

May 3, 2014

typeIt was just another crisp early fall afternoon as I walked down beneath the highway overpass. When I was nearing the bottom of the hill the murmur of voices rose up to great me. As I looked around to see who was there a fist smashed into the side of my face and in an instant it was fight or be beaten to a pulp. Those days are long behind me but a good lesson was learned during that last year of high school that for no apparent reason people can be resentful and jealous of you.

Nations of our world are no different in that they sometimes covet what other nations have. In most cases they simply purchase these commodities, other time they trade for goods that they have in abundance. It is when one nation has neither the money nor the ability to trade for that resource and the that same nation is much more powerful militarily that problems arise. If that nation knows it can win in an all out war and no other country will come to the aide of the besieged nation then they will first demand than take what they want.

America has, since the Second World War, been seen as a nation you do not want to anger. Even in the present day from Kennedy in Cuba to Clinton in Bosnia or Bush in Iraq nations new you do not pull the tail of the dragon. But today with the, obama White House, it is another story entirely. There is no global respect for the United States after seeing what has transpired over the past few years.

I do not know when this lack of respect started. It might have been when obama first took office and went on his first ‘world tour’ and repeated how sorry he was for the way the United States liberally used its military. Maybe it was when he praised and supported the Muslim Brotherhood in their take over of the Egyptian government, only to have the people of Egypt revolt against them when they tried to instill Sharia law for all of Egypt. In Libya we did have an enemy in Muammar Gaddafi but was it right to support militarily the very same terrorist groups who kill Americans?

Then obama drew a line in the sand in Syria and demanded they surrender their chemical weapons, only to be ignored until Russia, Syria’s ally, broker a deal. Now we are faced with Russia, (who knows obama is gun shy), inching it’s way to take over the Ukraine. The White House once again like a little boy crying and saying we will take away your piggy bank if you do not stop, and Russia ignoring anything obama says.

Has anyone noticed how quiet China has been lately? Don’t you think they are taking notes on how the US is reacting to these different crisis? I am sure North Korea is also watching closely and wondering what we would do if they encroached on South Korea.

War, like a personal fight, is never the answer
but when some countries only understand
words backed with strength what other options do we have?

What these countries understand is what Liberty Valance understood; “the point of a gun is the only law Liberty understood.” If some of you don’t know or don’t remember, this is a lyric from a song by the late great Gene Pitney titled “The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance” from a movie of the same name. Think John Wayne was the star. But that was only a movie, & I’m sure John would have the same outlook as us on here.
    God bless America.

What happened to speak softly but carry a BIG STICK, with Obama it’s more like throw a tantrum like a 2yr old whilst holding his pen and phone

As kd7ltn alluded to Theodore Roosevelt well understood world politics when he coined that ‘oh so true’ axiom; “Talk softly and carry a big stick”. Obama is delusional in that he lives in a make believe world where everyone really wants to sit down around a fire, hold hands and sing ‘We Are The World’. Sure, in a perfect world this would work but we’re not in a perfect world or anything even remotely close to such a scenario. Somehow our leadership lost the ability to see the world as it it really is and still believes if they just ‘wish it were so’ long enough it will be so. His entire ‘reality’ is based in a loathing for his country and its past; he feels he can atone for what he sees as America’s bullying and aggression. He is so out of touch he cannot see that this only makes our once great country appear weak and vulnerable. Putin recognizes this and has promptly pushed himself and his country into a world influencing position by understanding Obama will go to almost any length to avoid a conflict. Pete, you mentioned the relative silence from the Chinese..? You know they are a patient people and often see things happening across tens of years if not more. They have not missed this serious decay of American power and you can bet they are already working on their own plans to exploit our vulnerability.
