2013 a short retrospect

December 31, 2013

IMG_0702 Either my attention span is getting better or I am noticing that more things are out of whack. It just seems that actions being taken on the national and international level seem to have worsened but with 2013 fast disintegrating one can only hope that the United States in 2014 will have a better year. Yes I am sure my family, friends and maybe even some of you are getting tired with ‘the old man‘ and his dark outlook but what can I say I am a glass half empty kind of guy. I am also sure I would be much better off when I am sitting in my cabin if I never turn the radio on or never again read a newspaper or blog and just enjoyed the wilderness around me. But for whatever reason I am what I am and I can not bury my head and ignore actions taken by others that will effect my family and friends.

I am sure I would be better off in 2013 if I never heard about:

I am not lying to you,”if you like your health care plan, you can keep it“.

Our agreement with Iran to release some of their billions of dollars in exchange for Iran to ‘maybe’ slow down or freeze some of their nuclear programs.

Or if I never read that we allowed Syria’s close alley Russia to broker a deal to destroy biological weapons that Russia set up in the first place, and now we find out that a behind the scenes deal for oil was brokered between Russia and Syria.

Then again knowing that China now has a rover on the moon and is preparing for maned flight there to explore for ‘rare earth elements’ wouldn’t upset me if we still had any kind of space program.

But we know the worlds pioneer in space flight the good old US of A has given up on having any real space program and now we have to have our astronauts ‘hitch’ a ride with the Russians.

Closer to home we have the government shutdown that failed to achieve one single concession from the democrats but made the republicans look like bad guys when the ‘powers in Washington’ decided to shut down federal parks.

And here at the end of the year both parties agree on a budget so they can get home in time to fatten up for the elections in November. Only the budget they passed isn’t a budget they just moved around numbers to make us ‘common folk’ think they were doing something..

Then again responsibility is not in the vocabulary of our representatives in Congress, Senate or the White House or else why would we be here months after Benghazi and still be waiting for someone to be held accountable for the death of four embassy diplomats.

…..Then we loose a man

who in his earlier life was an activist for political change

and because of his color and political beliefs was imprisoned

but later in life in true biblical fashion he ‘turned the other cheek’

and joined with people of all races to make his country a better place to live.

Nelson Mandela

1918 – 2013

….but we did gain an man

who works tirelessly to help the homeless and needy

Pope Francis

…during 2013 everyone of us have experienced

both good and bad times

we have had days touched by tears and days full of laughter

so in 2014 let us all have hope that we see more of those good days.

Happy New Year

On this New Year’s eve let me just say HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!! to all of you on this blog. And by the way, I was rooting for the Eagles last Sunday night. In Minnesota, there ain’t nothing else right now except the college hockey teams.
Great to speak with you again last Sat. Pete, even though it took two phone calls to get it all in! LOL!!

Happy New Year! I like reading your blog and I also believe that it takes both energies…half glass full and glass half empty to make things better.

I’m not going to say my thoughts on the communist that died and his methods, Happy New Year.

Some decry my refusal to party on a sinking ship, too. And some believe that Democrats or Republicans will save them… And Linus sits in the pumpkin patch awaiting the Great Pumpkin while Charlie Brown holds the football for Lucy yet again..

Happy New Year Pete! I think I might take exception to your somewhat self-denigrating portrayal of yourself; it takes a a balanced, focused individual to give a clear narrative on today’s situation and one brave enough to state the facts even as the ‘PC crowd’ tries to bury such thoughts and perspectives in the diatribes of racism and vitriol. As you I fear for my country and I’ve never been more pleased I have no heirs because of what I fear is taking place within America. But I do have nephews and nieces as well as ‘grand’ versions of the same along with many ‘adopted’ families and its for them I continue to fight and do what I can to try to stem the tide of creeping socialism. Although we have a lame duck president in Obama he still has three years and the amount of damage he could do is horrifying. We might be just ‘voices in the woods’ and/or ‘crazy old loons’ but its our right and our responsibility to keep pointing out the danger we face as a nation if we continue on this death spiral. Thank you for your service and for your willingness to continue to serve a country we are fast losing; you are a man of honor and not alone…not by a long shot!

Thanks for the comment I think it would make a great posting unto itself. Though at times when I walk around my empty cabin and look out and see nothing but woods I have felt totally alone. However my blog has made me realize that there are many who feel as I do and this does reassure me that I am not alone…again thanks for your words.
