God, equality and Russia?

September 17, 2013

P.1Most of you probably have either read or heard about this but if you haven’t it is nearly impossible to believe. Vladimir Putin, the President of the Russia, wrote and op-ed piece for the New York Times in which he referenced ‘equality of people’ from our constitution! He wrote…“We are all different, but when we ask for the Lord’s blessings, we must not forget that God created us equal.” I was brought up thinking that the only religion in Russia was the state sponsored religion but it seems this op-ed piece is again taking us with Alice down the rabbit hole.

In the piece Putin also speaks of how we fought together during the second world war….
“….we were also allies once, and defeated the Nazis together. “
Now he is echoing what many in the US have been saying….
“The potential strike by the United States against Syria, despite strong opposition from many countries and major political and religious leaders, including the pope, will result in more innocent victims and escalation, potentially spreading the conflict far beyond Syria’s borders. Syria is not witnessing a battle for democracy, but an armed conflict between government and opposition in a multi-religious country.”
Then Putin is pointing out that obamas unilateral strike could be considered an act of war….
“Under current international law, force is permitted only in self-defense or by the decision of the Security Council. Anything else is unacceptable under the United Nations Charter and would constitute an act of aggression. But force has proven ineffective and pointless. Afghanistan is reeling, and no one can say what will happen after international forces withdraw. Libya is divided into tribes and clans. In Iraq the civil war continues, with dozens killed each day.”

Though this op-ed piece is now old history, published on September 9th, it has not stopped me from wondering what is he hoping to gain? Being a leader in the KGB we can understand that he is used to covert operations…

so on the face of it we see the leader of Russia sounding like one our founding fathers but we can not help wonder where this road will lead.
