Who’s watching the IRS?
That’s exactly what I am talking about George, they have no one to reign them in. We lost a lot of men throwing the others off our backs when they kept increasing the taxes, now the very government we built has a department that go’s after whomever they feel is a threat to keeping them in business. Tell me you are not going to just stand by and let this abomination of what we created go with out a fight? I am sorry Tom but it is the government that we created that established this department and now its the President who instructs that department who to go after, it would take another revolution to disband that department. But George you were our first President and you didn’t allow anything like this to go on, surely………
I am thinking that if George Washington and Thomas Jefferson were alive today they would see the governments intervention, by way of the IRS and the NSA, as a definite infringement on the peoples individual rights. Today I will focus on the IRS and in a future posting address the NSA’s eavesdropping. Taxes are what makes the United States government work. Yes we could eradicate the taxes and eliminate most of the government, taking us back to colonial days but even then they needed money to at the very least fight wars to protect our country.
In point of fact if we went back to a literal interpretation of the constitution, during colonial days, the only reason for taxation was for the defense of this country. There was no mention of government agencies like the FDA, BLM, DEA, CIA, NSA, FBI, Department of Energy, Human resources, or national education agency etc, etc, etc. But we have allowed our representatives to over time build up this massive bureaucracy, and now we are stuck with it.
But even if we are forced by today’s laws to maintain these agencies, shouldn’t we at least have a say in the way they are run? Hence my question… Who’s watching the watchers? Obviously with regard to the IRS, no one. Somehow, someone within the IRS decided that organizations with certain “key words”, like patriot or Tea Party, in their charter needed extra scrutinization, and in some instances roadblocks to delay them from getting their tax exempt status. This reminds me of Senator McCarthy who decided that certain people were in need of scrutinization even if this scrutinization was not based on facts.
Yes the IRS was caught and hearings were held, but do you really think this will end the discrimination? With the fear of an IRS audit and seizure of assets who will be brave enough to come forward in the future? It is important to remember that even though this agency can be very detail oriented when it wants to, it also can be quite dumb. Like when it issued $46,000,000 in 23,994 tax refunds to the same address. Or the 11,284 refunds worth $2,164,976 to unauthorized alien workers.
At times dealing with the IRS is like playing the lottery
some crooks can find ways to win with big refunds
while the rest of us will continue to pay.
