Seeing the music ?

September 8, 2011

*ie. (No alchol or mind altering drugs were consumed in the writing of this piece. However my ‘old-timers’ may have influenced it. Or I just felt so moved by my surroundings that I had to try and put it into words.)

How do you describe to a blind person color

How doe you make a deaf person understand what music is.

The other day I was driving home from Fairbanks and lost time and sense of place. Most of us have experienced this while driving, you set off to go some place and by the time you get there some part of the drive is a blank. Well on this trip home most of it was lost in some mental fog. Not for lack of sleep or important thoughts but beauty.

This posting will no doubt seem mundane to most but those who have experienced something like it will understand. That day for me it was the trees. Even though the sky was overcast the color of the leaves and ground cover was so intense I can offer no real description. It evoked a kind of psychological emotion.

People who live in Main or up-state New York and Pennsylvania might in some small way understand. For the trees there put on there colorful display every fall, but I say this was equal to that and more. To post a picture here would be of no use, you would get nothing from seeing it. You have to reach into your soul and remember back to some personal experience to understand of what I speak.

The colors, easy to say….green, light green, yellow, golden, auburn, crimson, burgundy etc are but mere words. If I were to attempt to enplane the never ending image it could only be described as music. A piece of music so wonderful it moved you emotionally.

If only for a minute here and there taking you away from your present existence.

Just another reason to call Alaska…..home.

Kara, if my mind serves me correctly (go easy now, no comments) you reached another meaning full plateau in Aug, this may have something to do with the fumbles, and miss spelled words, I know that I use every excuse that I can dig up. Go for it, you may find that it releases the stress. lol
