Summer’s here!

With the temperature for the first time hitting 70^ and the sound of the mosquitoes flying in formation around my head I knew summer was here. For me it’s a time of mixed blessings… Trips to my favorite streams and lakes and visits from relatives from across the ocean. It also brought me face to face with the many projects, (planed in the safety of winter), that would never get done.

For days now I have been promising myself that I would head down to the ‘gravel pit’ and bring back more stones to once again blanket my now soggy driveway. However every day so far I have been successful in finding some reason to put off the work.

I wonder is this one of the maladies of old age no one tells you about. Great and small plans that sounded essential and doable in one’s head, when the time comes to begin them just never get started. I look out my window and, it seems, overnight the trees are loaded with buds awaiting the summer rain to flourish. The distant hill tops, for months coated in white now stand like an open invitation to explore.

So many things to experience and accomplish during this brief taste of summer in the last frontier.

One paramount thought keeps coming to the surface

For some reason God has given me this time.

Nope, not old age, you aren’t that old. Just a little bit of lazybonitis, knowing that shortly, the drive will be dry enough it won’t actually need more gravel.

With all of our rain, I’ve cut the grass just once & it’s 6+” tall again. Have a good excuse; rainy week-ends.

Even down here, every “big” project has a bazillion small steps. Daunting when I look at it as a whole project. But when I rip it down and accept that I can only do so much in a day and just go and DO it, I am often surprised at how fast the thing actually gets done. :)
