Wilderness words (Change in the wind?)

update..08/31/2010…Today Senator Lisa Murkowski conceded defeat in the primary election. Joe Miller had this to say…””Now is the time for all Alaskans to come together and reach out with our core message of taking power from the federal government and bringing it back home to the people,” he said. “If we continue to allow the federal government to live beyond its means, we will all soon have to live below ours.”

Maybe it’s the changing of seasons, the coming of winter or the fact that for a week I could barely walk but my thoughts have existed in a fog. At different times I have had great insight on certain things and I begin to write about it and within a few sentences it is gone. This has happened a number of times and is very frustrating. I know we all share those ‘down’ days when the fog rolls in and even doing the simplest of things becomes a monumental task. But this has been for weeks now. So I decided to copy and paste an (unfinished) posting that never made it to the blog. I apologize to you my readers but it is woefully incomplete but maybe that is the way it was meant to be. Sometimes there is just no answer to our most important questions. There is just the thought…a basic idea, that we are left with to roll around in the back of our minds, waiting for that cosmic connection that one day pops up and we at once see the light.

I have started this posting many times and had it going in many directions. I usually get a few sentences down and then get frustrated that I can see no conclusion to my thoughts. I only see an overview of different situations with no outcomes. Take for instance the past week I had a glimmer of hope…a minute of feeling good about something. A man named Joe Miller won, here in Alaska, in the primary election over the incumbent Lisa Murkowski. Now this was just not supposed to happen. He was down 20 points only a few weeks prior to the election, but he overcame that and but a mere 1,600 votes won! MS Murkowski is not a bad politician but she sided with the Democrats in way to many votes. I think the people here decided it was finally time to say enough with the party machine.

So there was the glimmer of hope, maybe someone will get to Washington and finally make a difference. But I am a realist and know that even if he beats the democrat in november when he gets to Washington he will have to play by the rules they have there and they have nothing to do with what “we the people” want to see. If he stands by the principals that got him elected he will not be able to accomplish anything. He will no doubt find that once in Washington he must “work” with the opposition. In our everyday language he will have to give up many of his principals to get even the smallest of positive things done.

This is the way of life in our government, you have to give to get. But what would happen if enough people like Joe were elected? Could they not form a coalition and stand against those in power? Could they not take a simple stand like having a balanced budget and not give in until an act was passed that said our government can not spend more than it takes in? Am I thinking to logically? If those of us up here in Alaska can stand up and say enough with the Washington politics as they are today we want change in government. Can not the rest of America find there own ‘Joe Millers’ and take that first step to change our government back to what it was supposed to be?

It’s a very good thought, Pete. Let’s hope there are more folks out there willing to take the chance and vote for the “Joe Millers” in this country.

That was actually very decent of Lisa to concede. She could have even requested a full recount at our expense if she had felt like it.

    Pete,
If you were in a fog when you wrote this, hard and scary to imagine what state of fog the Congress and our so-called president are in these days with the anti-American garbage they pass these days. Your fog is a whole lot more sensible than theirs. Yes Rosalyn, it was nice and a little surprising to see Lisa concede. Wonder if she’s going to take the Crist path and run as a so-called Independent because like so many of these long-time servers, they just can’t give up the power and/or the perks.
We have our own axis of evil in Pelosi, Reid, and Obama, etc.

In Lisa’s favor, she isn’t a totally dyed in the wool politician yet. We can only hope she remains on the sidelines.
